Our Mission

Across Canada, many people are alone and vulnerable every day. Those fleeing domestic violence, hitchhiking, working in the sex trade, and dealing with the effects of mental illness, addictions, and homelessness are particularly at risk. Aware360, BC SafetyLink, Technology Helps, and Telelink partnered to spearhead the Safer Communities Initiative to bring technological innovation to the aid of vulnerable populations. The program uses smartphone-based technology to offer people help whenever they need it by ensuring access 24 hours a day to a judgement-free real time response service.

How does the program work?

  • The Aware360 App works on any smartphone.

  • It connects to BC SafetyLink, a professional response centre owned and operated by the Gitxsan First Nation, who provide clients the ability to check-in and receive emergency response when needed.

  • An emergency signal can be sent to request immediate response if a client finds themselves in trouble

  • The client chooses when they connect – their location is only known when they choose

  • This service is supported by Telelink Emergency & Safety Response Center to ensure 24 / 7 / 365 support.

  • The client’s location is only known after signing in to the app and social agencies can define the response plan to ensure the right balance between protection and privacy.
